NRP - National Research Platform
The National Research Platform (NRP) provides several computational tools for researchers.
- JupyterHub
- Coder
- LLMs
- Kubernetes
The first three provide easy to user interfaces, while Kubernetes provides access to lower level tools to design your own computing systems.
To use any of them, you can login with your UCSB NetID. There's several steps to follow to get started
Navigate to https://nrp.ai/ and click on the 'login' in the upper right. It will take you to a login page like this
Click on the pulldown (where it says 'ORCID') and it will pop up a search box at the top (do not use 'Google' that's up at the top of the list!) - , type in 'Santa Barbara' and you'll get University of California, Santa Barbara. Check the box 'remember my selection' and then ' log on'. It will take you to the usual UCSB SSO (single sign on) page, login with your NetID.
You've already agreed to the use policy, but it's worth reminding you of it again...this is a free resource, so please use it appropriately to keep it available to everyone here!
Once you've logged in the first time, you need to get connected to a 'namespace' - this is basically a way to keep track of what kinds of research is being done on the cluster. Send an email to cnsi-support@cnsi.ucsb.edu with your NetID, and which group you work with and what you plan to use (LLM, JupyterHub, Coder, etc.) and a one sentence description of your research.
We will put you in the appropriate Namespace and then you should be able to start working.
To use JupyterHub go to https://jupyterhub-west.nrp-nautilus.io
You can also use the NRP managed LLM's - a chat-type one (along the lines of what you experience with ChatGPT) is NRP's LibreChat at https://librechat.nrp-nautilus.io/
Note - if you are directed to a login window when logging into LibreChat, choose 'Login with Authentik', and that will take you to the UCSB SSO page.
Coder is at to https://coder.nrp-nautilus.io/
For those that want to use Kubernetes directly, you can do that too once you're set up in a namespace. Contact us for more information.
